Watchtower
Uitkijktoren De Baak
This watchtower is located in the newly developed Kollummerwaard area of Staatsbosbeheer. You can walk around freely in this former shooting range, but some areas are not accessible. The area is grazed by Koninck horses and Scottish Highlanders. This makes the path to the watchtower sometimes difficult to pass. Marsh harriers hunt here abundantly and there is abundant reed life with species such as bittern, bluethroat, water rail, reed warbler, lesser reed warbler and in some years large reed warblers. All sorts of rarities have been seen here over the years, including cricket warbler, barred warbler and red-headed shrike. You can visit the area all year round, but a visit is most worthwhile in the spring. Boots are recommended, as the path to the watchtower is sometimes difficult to pass.
