Kasteelruïne Geijsteren
On the way from Geijsteren to Maashees, just past the bridge over the Geijsterse Beek, on the right side is the driveway to the former castle. This castle dates back to the 13th century and was largely rebuilt after a major fire in 1918. However, the castle was bombed by the English in 1944 to prevent the newly expelled Germans from taking it again as a lookout. The castle was completely destroyed. The ruin has recently been restored to make the contours of the castle visible again. Upon entering the gatehouse you can see what the castle used to look like, thanks to the photos that hang here from before the bombing. On the side of the ruin you can also walk through a gate through the meadow to the Maas. This is the place where the Geijsterse brook flows into the Maas and here you have a beautiful view. You are welcome to visit. The gate is open daily until 5pm.
