Monument Bombardement Operation Oyster
The monument 'Operation Oyster' in Eindhoven commemorates about 150 civilian victims of the British bombing of Eindhoven on December 6, 1942; the 'Sinterklaasbombardment'. The bombing was carried out in daylight and was aimed at the Philips factories at Strijp S and at the Emmasingel. During the war radio tubes for the Germans were manufactured in these factories. However, many of the Royal Air Force's bombs hit other targets: shops, homes, churches and the Indoor Hospital. This bombing raid was carried out by 94 Royal Air Force aircraft. Sixteen aircraft did not return.
