Monument
Gebroeders Hornemann Plantsoen
The 'Gebroeders Hornemannmonument' in Eindhoven was established in memory of all Jewish children from the municipality who were persecuted and killed by the occupying forces during the Second World War. The memorial is a reminder and a warning against discrimination and persecution. The monument and the park are named after two Eindhoven boys (6 and 8 years old) who were picked up and taken away by the occupying forces, who died after many wanderings in a school building on the Bullenhuser Damm in Hamburg, which was turned into a hospital. The names of these two brothers are: Alexander and Eduard Hornemann. They were victims of medical experiments and were hanged in the basement of the school on the night of 20 to 21 April 1945 (just before the liberation). Eighteen other children from France, Belgium and the Netherlands was allotted the same fate.
