Anne Frank Plantsoen

The monument 'Anne Frank' in Eindhoven was erected in memory of the 304 Jewish men, women and children from the municipality who were persecuted and killed by the occupying forces during the Second World War. The memorial is a reminder and a warning against discrimination and persecution of certain population groups. The 15-year-old Jewish girl Anne Frank personifies all the misery caused to millions of Jews during the Second World War. When the first Jews in the Netherlands were called up in 1942, Otto Frank decided to go into hiding with his family. With the help of two employees, a hiding place was set up in the Secret Annex at Prinsengracht 263 in Amsterdam. From July 6, 1942 to August 4, 1944, the Frank family, the Van Pels family and the dentist Frits Pfeffer went into hiding here. A scary and oppressive time, in which the teenage girl Anne Frank kept a diary. In it she not only wrote down her intimate thoughts and reflections, but also tried to describe daily life in the Secret Annex and the news from outside. A unique document that has affected people all over the world. The Secret Annex has become a worldwide bestseller. Anne Frank's life story bears witness to how ordinary people have become victims of racism and genocide. Anne Frank has given the 'Endl? Sung' a voice and face. The monument was unveiled on May 4, 1990 by Mayor JA van Kemenade, as part of 'activities against racism, fascism and discrimination'
