Stedelijk Museum Hof Van Busleyden

Many palaces were built in Mechelen in the sixteenth century. The palace residence of Hieronymus van Busleyden, one of the members of the Great Council, was one of these. Van Busleyden was a humanist and a good friend of Erasmus. From 1619 until the First World War, the poor could go to this palace to borrow money without interest. During the war, the building was completely destroyed. Only the walls were still standing at the time. Later it was rebuilt and the city museum was located in the palace. In the museum you can visit changing exhibitions.
