Sint-Gorikshallen

Right in the center of Brussels you will find the Halles Saint-Géry. Since 1999, an information and exhibition center has been established here, where you can visit all kinds of changing exhibitions about the architecture or specific projects in the region. Most of the exhibitions are free to visit. Furthermore, events are regularly organized in the halls. These halls used to be used as market halls, but the building has long ceased to have that function. In the 18th century, a market square was created on the site of the halls, with a fountain in the middle in the shape of a pyramid. That fountain from 1767 is still standing in the Halles Saint-Géry and comes from Grimbergen Abbey. In the past, a market was regularly held on the square, which was later held inside the Halles Saint-Géry. After the Second World War, the market became increasingly neglected and in 1977 the halls were closed. From 1987 plans were again made to open the halls. Nowadays you can go there daily between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
