The Maas and Shipping Museum is dedicated to the rich history of the skippers exchange and the history of inland shipping. For example, take a look at the model of the 'aldermen's cemetery'. This so-called cemetery was created when 240 ships were sunk by the Germans in the port of Maasbracht. This event has left its mark on the history of inland navigation. You can also view various scale models of ships that sailed inland waterways in the past, but there is more than just history. In the museum you also learn more about the social and economic developments that have taken place in inland shipping. In words and pictures you will be made clear what effect these developments have had on the industry. The daily life of the skipper and his family is also discussed. These people lived and worked under difficult conditions. Through various photo exhibitions you will learn what their life was like in the past.
