Laarwoud

It is almost certain that this manor was founded well before the 17th century and belonged to the Van Selbach family. The manor has remained closely involved in public administration due to the fact that the residents held high positions in the administration of the province and municipality. After 1915, the Laarwoud became the official residence of the mayor. When the occupier requisitioned the manor in 1941, the link between the Laarwoud and the municipality was severed. After the occupation it was converted into an emergency nursing home. After the war, the municipality was given free access to the Laarwoud again. Since it was not possible to restore the building to its old state, it was decided to establish the town hall here. After the reorganization in 1998, a new town hall had to be built. The new location is in Vries. Laarwoud has been privately owned again since 2004.
