In the middle of Hillegom you will find the original country house Hof te Hillegom. It is not clear exactly when this country house was built, but the oldest mention of the Hof te Hillegom dates from 1420. This court is the former stopping place of the Counts of Holland. In the 14th century, the county's nobles regularly gathered here to discuss the administration of the county. In 1481, the former house was destroyed by fire and the house was also damaged during the Eighty Years' War. Later the building was renovated. The core of the building and the cellar still date from the Middle Ages. From the beginning of the 20th century, this country house was used as a town hall and today it is used, among other things, as an office and meeting room. Originally there were plans to build a park around the mansion, but little more has come of it than the moat and some trees.
