Castle
Binckhorst
Kasteel De Binckhorst is the only castle in The Hague. The first mention of the castle dates from 1308, when Count William III of Holland gave it on loan to one of his confidants. In 1613 Philibert van Borsselen wrote the first court poem in the Netherlands: Den Binckhorst, or Het lof des gelucsalighen ende gherustmoedighen Land-Levens en Jonck lord Jacob Snouckaert. The court poem sings about the beauty of the castle with its beautiful gardens and lands with the most beautiful plants, fruit trees and birds. The castle is situated on a moat with an authentic 18th century entrance gate. The building has a turret and consists of a central section with two wings that project forward. A coach house is located behind the castle.
