In September 1944, the museum buildings of the Dutch Open Air Museum provide shelter to Arnhem residents who fled the city centre during the battle for the bridge. After the Battle of Arnhem, the city was evacuated and hundreds more people arrived. It was a tough decision, but at a certain point, no one could really join.
