M27: Batenburg

Batenburg is strategically located along the Maas and has a wonderful past. The name refers to Bato, the ancestor of the Batavians, who is said to have founded a fortification here. The earliest mention of Batenburg dates back to 1080. A moth castle was probably built around that time.
