M23: Kronenburgertoren - Kruittoren

The 30m high Kronenburger or powder tower dates from 1425 and is without doubt the most impressive mhouse in the Netherlands. It is strange that the powder tower survived the Late Middle Ages. The introduction of the cannon in the 15th century meant that high towers in the city wall were no longer popular. They could easily collapse during a bombardment. That is why almost all high wall towers were demolished at that time.
