M18: Mariken van Nieumeghen

Mariken van Nieumeghen is without a doubt the most famous person in Nijmegen's long history. Her story is told all over the world. But Mariken herself never really existed. She is the protagonist in a miracle play that was written around 1500 and is largely set in Nijmegen.
