R15: Romeinse brug Middelaar- Cuijk
Visit the website
The Romans built a bridge over the Maas at Medelaar around 350 AD. At the time, where the current Cuijkse Martinuskerk is located, was a Roman Fort at the junction of roads. The 300 meter long bridge was a link in the road between Nijmegen and Maastricht. The bridge consisted of stone pillars on a wooden pile foundation. The growth rings of these pillars allowed the construction period to be determined.
