Molen St. Antonius

Less than half a kilometer by bike from the town of Heythuisen you will find windmill St. Antonius. This belt mill was built between 1860 and 1861. Originally it was a flour mill and an oil mill, but over the years the mill has mainly been used to grind flour. In 1886 a steam engine was placed to no longer depend on the wind to grind. That machine was replaced by an electric motor in 1927 and the wooden shaft of the mill was replaced by a cast iron shaft. Since 1969, the mill has been owned by the then municipality of Heythuysen, which later passed to the municipality of Leudal. In 1973 and between 2001 and 2004 the mill was restored to keep the mill running smoothly. The necessary maintenance had not been carried out for a number of years and the mill had deteriorated sharply as a result. Today the mill is regularly put into operation by a volunteer miller.
