The post mill of Retranchement is one of the best-preserved wooden mills in Zeeland. It has stood on the edge of the historic ramparts since the 17th century – making it as old as the village itself. Retranchement originated as a military redoubt during the Eighty Years' War; the mill supplied the soldiers and their families with flour. Today, it still turns when the wind is suitable.
