Country house
De Oliphant
In 1591, Cornelis van Coolwijk commissioned the construction of Landhuis De Oliphant in the newly dike polder near the Nieuwe Sluis on the island of Voorne. Van Coolwijk lived in Delft 'In de Gulden Olyphant'. The name of his house didn't just come out of the blue. He would have been active in the lucrative ivory trade and as steward had interests in Voorne.
