Hunebed D49 - Papeloze Kerk

Visit the website
Many traces of the past can be found in Sleenerzand. Glacier pits can still be seen in the northern part of the forestry. In the southern part are burial mounds, hunebed De Papoze Kerk and Celtic Fields. These are remnants of field complexes from the Iron Age. The Galgenberg is very special. Almost 3,500 years ago the chief of the Sleenerzand was buried in this burial mound. He got his gold earrings, bronze ax and arrows. A wreath of posts was erected around the burial mound. This was a sign that the dead should be left alone. The wreath was reconstructed in 1996.
