Cycling through the Scheldt region

During this cycle route you will explore the Scheldeland and cycle through small villages such as Boom, Terhagen and Heffen, but you will also pass the Burgundian city of Mechelen. You will also explore the areas in between these places and get to know the beautiful nature that the area has to offer.

Starting point: Rupel
The starting point of this route of over 50 kilometers is De Velodroom in Boom. Here you can find all information about the cycling and walking possibilities in the Rupelstreek and in the Scheldeland. Here you can also rent a bike, charge your electric bike or have a small repair done. At cycling café De Musette you can enjoy your cycling route.

Burgundian Mechelen
A little later you cycle right through the pleasant city of Mechelen. Mechelen is located in the heart of Flanders, halfway between Brussels and Antwerp. Historical buildings and narrow streets take you back in time. The Burgundian century was an exciting time for Mechelen as the Burgundian capital of the Netherlands. And Mechelen is still known as a pleasant, Burgundian city. You leave Mechelen and cycle along the river Dijle for a considerable time. Here you can completely relax.

Through nature
You pass a lot of beautiful, small villages during this route, but you also cycle long stretches in nature. You cycle for a considerable time along the rivers Dijle and Zenne. And you cycle along the Eglegemvijver, an important resting place for birds. An ideal destination for bird lovers! And you pass the forest Het Broek. A varied route.
