Diepenbeek: junction of Limburg

Come spend a day cycling through the beautiful surroundings of Diepenbeek in Belgian Limburg. You'll find plenty of natural beauty in the Land of 1001 Ponds. You'll also pass through Hasselt, the charming former mining town.

Japanese garden
This route starts at Junction 100 at the Demerstrand sports and recreation area. It's the ideal base for a fascinating bike ride exploring all the beauty that Central Limburg has to offer. First, you'll cycle a short distance through the Demer River Valley. A wonderfully peaceful area where you can immediately escape the daily grind. Then you'll pass through the Japanese garden, a worthwhile stop.

Cycling through the water
You'll cycle through Hasselt's beautiful old city center. You can take a short detour here to admire some of its lovely historic buildings. Further on, you'll cycle through De Wijers, the Land of 1001 Ponds. Here, you can cycle through the water! From the sunken cycle path, you'll be able to see the ponds at eye level. You'll also find the Bokrijk open-air museum in this area. Upon your return, enjoy a snack on the lovely terrace of cycling café Knooppunt 100.
