The historic heart of Groningen is home to a wealth of sights. And a cozy atmosphere! Ideal for exploring with a walking route.
corn exchange
After a comfortable night's sleep at Martini Hotel Groningen, you will probably want to explore the largest city in the northern Netherlands. First you walk through the Herestraat: right, one of the streets from Monopoly. In this atmospheric shopping street you will see many monuments. Just like the old Vismarkt. This includes the Korenbeurs, a building with a neo-classical facade from 1865. The large amount of glass is functional: it gave the inspectors enough light to judge the grain.
Aa-Church
Der Aa-Kerk dates back to the fifteenth century, a beautiful building. Further on you pass the Northern Maritime Museum, which is highly recommended. Walking along the quay of the A, you can see from the many old warehouses and mansions how trade flourished here for centuries. On the seventeenth-century Nieuwe Boteringestraat you will pass the green Nieuwe Kerk. You walk back to the starting point along the Turfsingel and the Schuitendiep.
Tour tip; Hiking with kids! Routes up to 5 km are ideal
