Cycling route through West Friesland

This cycling route of over 51 kilometers takes you past a beautiful museum in West Friesland. You will also pass small villages such as Medemblik, Opmeer and Wognum and enjoy the vast polder landscapes.

Historical Medemblik
The cycle route starts at the Kagerdijk, on the water in Wevershoofd. Via Onderdijk you cycle for a while along the coastline towards Medemblik. Medemblik is the oldest city in West Friesland. In the center you will find modern and historic side by side. Beautiful yachts and historic ships from the brown fleet moor in the modern harbors of the historic city center.

Quiet environment
In Opmeer you cycle past West Frisia Museum Farm. It seems as if time has stood still here. In the museum farm you imagine yourself in an inhabited bell-shaped farm from the year 1900. History comes to life as soon as you step inside. It seems as if the resident has left for a while and can come home again. Opmeer is a real rural municipality, around the village you can cycle straight into the green, quiet surroundings.

From here the route continues to Wognum, Nibbixwoud, Zwaagdijk-Oost. In the past, people in this region lived off fish from the Zuiderzee. Nowadays, fruit growing is an important source of income. The fruit trees bloom beautifully in the spring months. You end up back in the parking lot where you started.
