Cycling route: 978167
Provided by: Groots Genieten
During this cycle route you will explore the vast polder of North Holland. The starting point of the route is Anna Paulowna, after which you continue to Julianadorp and Den Helder.
The bulb region
The area around Anna Paulowna is known for its typical Dutch polder landscape. In the spring and summer months, the colors of the bulb region predominate, but you can also enjoy the beautiful view during the other seasons during this route.
Via Anna Paulowna you cycle towards the coast to Julianadorp. From there you follow the coastline to the north and pass the Donkere Duinen, which lie just below Den Helder. It is a planted pine forest. There is a ring-shaped duck pond with bushy banks: a varied forest where you can enjoy cycling.
Around Den Helder
Den Helder, the home port of the Royal Netherlands Navy, is located in the north of North Holland. The city is inextricably linked to the sea. Enjoy the picturesque views of the sea. You cycle around Den Helder and descend via the harbor. Straight through Den Helder you continue the route towards De Kooy, to return to Anna Paulowna via the beautiful polder landscape of North Holland. Before you get there, you first make a tour around the Amstelmeer. This used to be the Amsteldiep, the transition between the Waddenzee and the Zuiderzee. But since the arrival of the Amsteldiepdijk, it has become a lake.
