Description
Boxtel is easy to explore with a walk. You will find plenty of beautiful old buildings and a nice atmosphere. You will also pass Stapelen Castle.
Basilica
First you walk along the edge of Boxtel. Here you look out over reed collars, the rippling water of the meandering Dommel and grasslands. In the heart of Boxtel you pass the St. Peter's Basilica, which originally dates from the thirteenth century. Museum De Canonye is located in a lovely house from the mid-seventeenth century. Here you will learn about Canons and their way of life.
Stacking Castle
After you have crossed the water, you will see a monumental factory chimney from 1852 on the Drossaard. The white former factory building dates from 1850. Just past junction 4 you will pass the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church from 1901. Stapelen Castle has a history dating back to 1293 The castle was extensively renovated in the nineteenth century. Since 1915, the castle has been used as a monastery by the Assumptionists.
