The LF Cycling Club also wants to contribute to drawing more attention to the Death Wire from 14-18. Especially now that there is also an exhibition in the Achelse Kluis about the major explosion of the German ammunition trains at Hamont station in 1918. According to the ED, almost 30 municipalities are participating in this commemoration of the 350 km long electric border barrier in those years. The leader of a white crocus route to commemorate the death thread is the municipality of Maasmechelen, which will plant no fewer than 35,000 of the total of 125,000 crocus bulbs in October 2018. When cycling out of Baarle, turn right and on the Border you will come across a reconstruction of a switch house for FKP 8 and at 8 turn right via the Zondereigenweg and cycle back and forth to the border to see the second reconstruction on the border. .
After FKP 11 and before 52 you come to the 3rd reconstruction and after FKP 19 and between FKP 20 you come across the 4th reconstruction point to view. And if you take a detour via Kalmthout between FKP 70 and 80, you will find the 5th point at the turning point there.

Uitkijktoren "De Klot"

2990 Wuustwezel

De Maatjes nature reserve is a cross-border marsh reed landscape. Largely in the municipality of Zundert and further in the Belgian municipalities of Wuustwezel and Kalmthout. Near the point where the three municipalities meet, a 7 meter high watchtower has been built, from which you can look out over the surrounding area. The name 'de Klot' refers to a lump, a clod of peat or peat. Between the 1250s and 1750s peat was mined here on an almost industrial scale. The peat was transported to Roosendaal, Bergen-op-Zoom, Antwerp, ... From the lookout tower you can still see peat relics in the landscape.
