Description
This route takes you through Heemstede. In the countryside you will find plenty of variety and beautiful villages.
Estates
The route starts at a parking lot near the Spaarne. From the bridge you have a beautiful view over the babbling water of this river. You drive through Heemstede on leafy roads. There are relatively many villas in the neighboring Aerdenhout. Further on you drive through the forests of three connected country estates: Leyduin, Woestduin and Vinkenduin. At Restaurant de Vogelensangh it is time for a culinary pit stop. You can then enjoy a dessert at Toscana IJssalon.
Heemstede Castle
Bennebroek and De Glip are two nice places to explore by bike. Heemstede Castle was a thirteenth-century castle that was rebuilt after a number of destructions. Until the fortress was finally demolished in 1810. Here you can still see the remains of the castle and the beautiful former steward's house. Finally, you will pass the Hommel, a polder mill from 1879.
