From Fort Uitermeer you can take a nice detour through the polder. Make sure you have waterproof shoes, the route is partly on an unpaved path through the meadows.
Defense Line of Amsterdam
The route starts at Fort Uitermeer, part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam. A fortification was already built at this location in 1589 for the defense of Weesp. In 1845, the then dilapidated fortress was converted into a fortified fortress. After the Second World War, some parts of the fortress were demolished, only the tower fort and some former ammunition warehouses remained. Further on you will pass Paviljoen Uit en Meer, a cozy and beautiful location for a drink and a pastry.
Fight
The's-Gravelandsevaart was dug in 1634, over this watercourse wealthy Amsterdam merchants were transported to their country estates in't Gooi. Peat was shipped to Amsterdam from the other side. It is nice to walk along the canal along reed collars. Then you walk into the wide polders. You walk between meadows where many wild flowers grow. A beautiful quiet spot. You walk the last meters along the Vecht, and in the distance you see Fort Uitermeer.
