Description
Get ready for a walk from Dwingeloo that will take you back in time. During this tour you will walk past two historic castles. With a little imagination you can imagine yourself in the world of lords of the castle, knights and damsels.
Westrup Castle
The starting point of this route is at a parking lot on the edge of Dwingelderveld National Park. Park your car here and then set off towards Dwingeloo. At the start of the route you will pass't Hof van Dwingeloo, where you can enjoy a tasty snack and a drink. Here you can also settle down at the end of your walk to replenish your energy supply and to rest for a while. A little further on you will pass Westrup Castle, a historic manor from 1740.
Castle Oldengaerde
You then continue your course to Kasteel Oldengaerde. The house was built in the first half of the 15th century by Reynolt van Echten. A true gem to behold. The last part of the route takes you through the foothills of Dwingelderveld National Park. Enjoy the beautiful nature here and relax completely. Eventually you will end up back at the point where you started.
