Description
A beautiful two-day tour of 100 kilometers along the Dutch Waterline. On day 1 you cycle approximately 40 kilometers to the first overnight stay at Fort aan de Klop. Day 2 you cycle approximately 60 kilometers to Fort Vuren.
You cycle along the Vecht, through Utrecht and cycling city of the year 2018 Houten. Then via the Lek and the Linge to Fort Vuren on the Waal.
This route literally takes you from fort to fort. At a number of the forts you can have a bite to eat or a drink in between. On day 1 you can also choose to deviate slightly from the route and visit Muiderslot (8 kilometers extra). At Fort aan de Klop you can pitch your tent and cook your own meal, or you can choose to join in for a delicious meal in the restaurant.
On day 2 you cycle through Utrecht and Houten to the Lek. On the way you will pass numerous forts, works and bunkers. Too many to mention them all, but for a nice bite to eat and a drink you can choose Werk aan de Korte Uitweg or Werk aan het Spoel, for art and culture you should go to art fort Asperen or the Geofort. Final destination is Fort Vuren. You can extend your tour by booking an overnight stay here or having dinner in the excellent restaurant.

The concept for a defense line in which the low-lying polder landscape is flooded dates back to 1589. With the fortresses in the fortified towns of Muiden, Weesp, Naarden, Gorinchem and Woudrichem, the line was guarded from the higher ground.
