Cycling between Amsterdam and Hilversum is beautiful. You will find forests and vast lakes there. You will also pass by forts and towns with a rich cultural history, such as Baambrugge and Loenersloot.

Loenersloot Castle
During the first kilometers you will spend your legs relaxing along the leafy banks of the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. Get a breath of fresh air while leaving your everyday routine behind. From Baambrugge you cycle along the meandering river Angstel to Loenersloot. Along this part of the route there is one monumental building after another, ranging from thatched farmhouses and churches to the thirteenth-century Loenersloot Castle. In between you look out over a vast Dutch polder landscape.

Fort Uitermeer
From the equally picturesque Vreeland you drive to the Gabriël: a polder mill from 1635. Near Fort Kijkuit. Then you drive through the Kortenhoefse Plassen, a refreshingly quiet and unspoilt nature reserve. Then you drive into the woods of the Spanderswoud. You can get off at Fort Uitermeer to enjoy the old fortress and a snack. Along the Ankeveense Plassen and via Baambrugge you drive back to Fort bij Nigtevecht.
