Muiden and Weesp are two beautiful old fortified towns where there is plenty to see and experience. In the countryside you can enjoy the peace and the varied natural beauty.

The Diem
Cycling along the dike along the meandering Gein you can enjoy a typical Dutch view of meadows, cows and monumental farms. You will also see the Broekzijdse Molen, a polder mill from 1641. A little later you will come across another old polder mill on the Gaasp: the Community Mill from 1708. Further on you will drive past the Diemerbos and through the idyllic surroundings along the river Diem.

Weesp
In Muiden you can still see many old buildings. What a nice atmosphere! You can walk in at the Muizenfort, which was built at the end of the nineteenth century. You drive on a car-free road to Muiderberg. Climb the dike for a view over the IJmeer. In the polder you pass the Meermolen/Onrust, a polder mill from 1809. Along the Vecht you drive into Weesp, there is plenty to experience in this historic fortified town. The route ends at Fort near Nigtevecht.

Fort Nigtevecht is an excellent location to start your cycling and walking tour. In this historic place you can enjoy a meal and coffee with cake, after which you set out through the beautiful region between Amsterdam and Utrecht. Here you will find plenty of cultural history, beautiful landscapes and a remarkable amount of peace and quiet. Fort near Nigtevecht has also been serving as a memorial site for some time now. Relatives have various options here to give the urn with the ashes of a deceased loved one a beautiful place in a green, quiet environment.

Muizenfort (Fort-C)

In Fort C, also known as the Muizenfort, the Visitor Center Vesting Muiden will be established as of April 1, this includes an unmanned tourist office with brochures and a digital touch screen with all tourist information from the region. There is also a museum about both the Defense Line of Amsterdam and the New Dutch Waterline. A beautiful film is shown on three wide screens with the story of both lines. There are information panels and a DIY furniture with information about Fort C. An escape room will also open in the fort in the autumn. The Muizenfort is also an excellent location to start your cycling or walking tour here. We have set out various routes for cyclists and walkers. Opposite the fortress you can get a drink and fries or fresh fish.
