Between Fort and Fortified Town Muiden along the Vecht and 't Gein

In historical Muiden, the sights are literally there for the taking. Along the Vecht you drive past several forts of the New Dutch Waterline.

Fort Nigtevecht
From Fort Nigtevecht you drive to the Amsterdam Rhine Canal and you pedal your legs loose over the high bicycle bridge over the canal. From the village of Nigtevecht you follow the course of the Vecht, here it is beautiful to make kilometers. You pass Fort Hinderdam that is located in the middle of the Vecht, you can not visit this fort. With a small detour you arrive at Fort Uitermeer where they have delicious sandwiches and coffee in the pavilion with a view of the Vecht.

Muiderslot
After a pleasant stopover, you continue along the Vecht. How wonderfully peaceful it is here! You pass the fortified town of Weesp, because in Muiden you can expect many hours of cultural history. For example, you can drop by the Muizenfort, which was built at the end of the nineteenth century and which houses, among other things, the visitor centre Fortress Muiden with an exhibition about the Fortress Muiden as part of the two water lines; New Dutch Waterline and Defence Line of Amsterdam. Further on is the Rijksmuseum Muiderslot. At the IJmeer you can view the Westbatterij, a fort from 1852. Take binoculars with you to discover fortress island Pampus from the dike or take the boat to visit the fort.

With a large arc through the meadows you return to the Amsterdam Rhine Canal and take the bridge at Driemond. Here you end up in the luxury of the river't Gein. Here you can fully enjoy a landscape that looks like a painting: cows grazing in the fields, pollard willows along the winding dike and beautiful old farms. You pass the Broekzijdse Molen, a polder mill from 1641. Cross the white bridge over the Gein and enjoy the view. Via a hedge of pollard willows you return to Fort Nigtevecht.
