Along the Line and Vecht

Fort Nigtevecht

From Fort Nigtevecht you cycle at junction 83 over the Amsterdam Rhine Canal and via the winding Vecht to the characteristic village of Vreeland. You will pass, among other things, the Hoekermolen, a polder mill from 1847. From Vreeland, continue your way along the Vecht to Fort Nieuwersluis.

?At this historic place, owned by Natuurmonumenten, you can spend your stopover every Sunday with delicious coffee & tea, various homemade cakes and lunch. From Fort Nieuwersluis you drive through beautiful Loenen aan de Vecht to the thirteenth-century Loenersloot Castle, after which you cycle through Baambrugge and Abcoude: three villages full of beautiful old buildings. From Abcoude you quickly drive along the meandering river 't Gein. Here you will find a landscape of green meadows with grazing cows, dikes lined with pollard willows and elongated plots of land with old farms. You pass the Oostzijdse mill, a polder mill from 1874 that became famous because Piet Mondriaan painted the mill twenty times. Turn right onto Velterslaan and cycle through a hedge of pollard willows to Fort Nigtevecht. Here you cross the Liniedijk, which is part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam.
