Description

From your starting point you first drive to beautiful Abcoude and the Fort at Abcoude, the first fortress built for the Defense Line of Amsterdam. Remarkably, this fort from 1887 was never put into military use. You also drive past the fifteenth-century Gothic village church. The Wilhelmina Bridge over the Gein is also beautiful. This quack (pedestrian bridge) dates from 1908. Along the Gein you cycle through a landscape of green meadows with grazing cows, dikes lined with pollard willows and elongated plots of land with old farms. You will see the Oostzijdse Mill dating from 1874, one of Mondriaan's beloved painting objects. Along the leafy banks of the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal you drive to Baambrugge with its wonderful historic atmosphere. Get off at Café Restaurant De Punt in Baambrugge!
