Discover the past of the Doezumermieden on a walk that brings the memory of peat extraction to life. On this forester's path in Groningen it sometimes feels like you are far from civilization. Come in the summer and see the green glazier flying around the pet holes.
Highlights
- In the summer, the green glazier flies above the crabskin in the pet holes.
- The peat used to dry on the former laying fields.
- Jump up and down on the vibrating bog and you will feel the ground vibrating under your feet.
- The Lauwers is an old sea river that flows into the former Lauwerszee, now Laumersmeer.
- During the walk you walk three times through swamp forest.
- A monumental drawbridge runs across the Doezumertocht.
The walk is largely on an unpaved path. Dogs are welcome, provided they are kept on a leash. Route is not suitable for disabled people.
