Description
Between Almelo and Delden, it is wonderfully peaceful cycling through the Twente rolling landscape. There is also plenty of cultural history to experience. In Bornerbroek, you pass the monumental St. Stephen's Church. The building, dating from 1868, was renovated in 1920 in the style of the Delft School. In the Nijreesbos, just south of Almelo, you can see a former V1 launch ramp on the left along the Oude Deldenseweg. This was constructed in 1944 by Italian prisoners of war but was never used. In the heart of Almelo, you pass the beautiful Grote Kerk, among other landmarks. A little further on, you can catch a glimpse of Huize Almelo, a castle dating from 1652. Finally, you pass through the Twickel Forest. Here you can see the Noordmolen from 1325, and further along, you cycle past Twickel Castle.
