Walking through Gieten-Borger forestry

In the Drenthe woods on the Hondsrug it is wonderful to walk. This route takes you through Boswachterij Gieten-Borger. You will also pass through the village of Gasselte.

Old farms
Start your route with a terrace at Restaurant De Wiemel. You then walk along the meadows on an unpaved path. The Lutkenend is a leafy road where you see some beautiful farms. On the horizon you can see the woods of Boswachterij Gieten-Borger quickly approaching. At the edge of the forest you first have views over the meadows, but after a while the path leads you through a thick hedge of trees.

Reclamation forest
Boswachterij Gieten-Borger is a typical reclamation forest that was created at the beginning of the twentieth century. Here you see a mix of coniferous and deciduous forests. The deeper you walk into the forest, the quieter it gets. An ideal environment to shake off the everyday hustle and bustle. In the middle of the forest you will pass a large sand extraction lake. From the forest you walk back to Restaurant De Wiemel.
