Your route starts at Herberg De Pot in Markelo. The fairytale views in the scenic landscape near Lochem are wonderful to discover by bike. Because of the hedgerows, hedges, farms, fields and streams, there is something new to see around every bend. Estates and castles are the gems in this beautiful landscape. The stately building Huis Verwolde was first mentioned in 1346. It was conquered in 1505 by Duke Karel van Gelre, who had it thoroughly fortified. In 1510 the castle was destroyed by an enemy. Later, the current castle was rebuilt in a simple form. The castle is open to the public and serves as a museum. The route takes you past two more nice stops: Wijngaard de Nieuwe Baankreis and Beleefboerderij de Kleine Carrousel.
