This route takes you past historic country houses with beautiful gardens and parks along the Vecht, the Loosdrechtse Plassen and's-Graveland. Cycle along the water and discover ancient villages and special buildings with a rich history along the way.
From outdoor area to outdoor area
The starting point of this tour is at the TOP Maarsseveense Plassen. Here you can easily park your car and then set off. From here you cycle through the Loosdrechtse Plassengebied to Nieuw-Loosdrecht and's-Graveland. Along the way you can get off to take a look at Tuin Murrenhof, Kasteel Museum Sypesteyn with the accompanying castle garden and the ornamental garden of Gooilust and the nearby rhododendron valley. All these places are highly recommended if you like to admire plants and trees.
On to Breukelen
From's-Graveland you continue cycling to Breukelen and Maarssen. Along the way you will be surrounded by the water of the Loenderveense Plas, the Wijde Blik and the river Vecht. Around Breukelen you will find several country estates with gardens and parks on the Vecht. For example, admire the ancient Rupelmonde or the Vijverhof. Along the route you will also find plenty of nice places to settle down for a snack and a drink.
Ridderhofstad Gunterstein
The last point of interest on this route is Ridderhofstad Gunterstein. Get off here for a short while to take a walk through the park near the house. From the winding paths you have a beautiful view of the historic house. You end your tour again at the TOP Maarsseveense Plassen near the water.

The ideal starting point for your visit to the Vecht region. Various beautiful cycling and walking routes start at this Tourist Transfer Point (TOP) through an unprecedentedly varied region with a rich history and beautiful natural beauty.
Tuin Murrenhof
The Murrenhof is a landscaped garden surrounded by idyllic ditches. Be surprised by the color splendor of the color-sorted borders next to the house. The rear part of the garden has been laid out more wildly and thus forms a natural transition to the swampy peat area that ends in the Breukeleveense plassen. An ideal environment for many special animals such as the harrier, kingfisher or purple traveler.
Siertuin van Gooilust
Heavenly. a better description can hardly be given for the ornamental garden of Gooilust. A walled oasis of tranquility full of exotic trees, varied borders, stinzen plants, an arbotum, special fruit varieties and roses.
Rupelmonde
Rupelmonde is a historic country estate on the river Vecht that is named after a Belgian town. The main building was enlarged around 1750 and after that some adjustments were made here and there.
Buitenplaats en park Sterreschans
The park of the Sterreschans country estate is 9.5 ha. large and it was transformed from a French garden into an English landscape park in 1815 under the direction of the famous landscape architect Zocher. Characteristic of this style, which can now be found everywhere in country parks along the Vecht, is the great variety in trees, winding ponds and romantic winding paths over hills. You may see travelers, as a heron colony breeds here.

Over Holland
3631 AA Stichtse Vecht
Over-Holland has one of the earliest landscape parks in the Netherlands: in 1755 the garden was changed in a sleek French style into a romantic English landscape park with flowing lines. You can stroll through the 22 ha park forest. with open, flowery meadows with ditches in the center. The park is an ideal breeding ground for robins, wrens, buzzards or kingfishers.
Buitenplaats Vijverhof
De Vijverhof is a country estate on the Vecht that was built in the second half of the 17th century. The old building was demolished and rebuilt between 1813 and 1866.
Vechtvliet
This country estate was built in the second part of the 17th century on the river Vecht. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the building was radically converted into the current country house.
Ridderhofstad Gunterstein
Ridderhofstad Gunterstein was built in 1680 on the ruins of a medieval castle from 1300 that was demolished in 1511 to use the stones for something else. At the same time as construction, a park was created next to the house, which was partly turned into an English landscape park in the 19th century. The entire site is no less than 115 hectares. Walk on the winding paths between ancient trees and enjoy the view of the house via the Lange Lindelaan.
