Just below Hilvarenbeek is the vast De Utrecht. With this route you take a nice walk through the northern part of this wooded estate. That will be a day of Brabant enjoyment.

At Hotel-Restaurant Huize Rustoord you can first grab an atmospheric terrace before you set off. Landgoed De Utrecht was reclaimed in 1898 as an investment by life insurance company De Utrecht. Just before you enter Torenlaan, you will see a row of six monumental, white-painted service houses on the right of the road. They were intended for the workers who had to reclaim the grounds of De Utrecht.

The Flaes
To the left of Torenlaan you can still see a remnant of the reclamation period of De Utrecht: the former forester's house with fire tower. On an unpaved path you walk through a row of trees, while looking out over the meadows. A long avenue takes you through the woods, after a while you come to De Flaes: a tranquil fen. Through the woods you walk back to Huize Rustoord: the former holiday home for employees of De Utrecht.
