From Aardenburg through the Flemish polders

Aardenburg is a picturesque town near Belgium. On the other side of the border you will find charming old villages, such as Damme. You will also pass through the Meetjeslands creek area.

The route starts with a coffee and something tasty at Restaurant De Kaaipoort. Then you get to know Aardenburg: the oldest town in Zeeland. No wonder that you can still admire some historical sights here, such as the thirteenth-century Sint-Bavokerk. This building is in the Top 100 of National Monuments. Then you drive through the polders along the Dutch-Belgian border. You look out over meadows and fields. It is wonderfully quiet here to make kilometers.

Meetjeslands creek area
Around Sint-Lauriens you drive through the Meetjeslands creek area: a landscape with many creeks and lakes that have been created by flooding over the centuries. Just before junction 75 you can get off and admire the creeks on both sides of the road. Further on you pass the Bladelin Visitor Centre. Here you can learn more about the rich history of the village of Middelburg-in-Vlaanderen, a must! You also pass through the picturesque Damme and the fortified town of Sluis.
