Kasteel Zevender

In the thirteenth century the castle Zevender was built by order of the lords of Schoonhoven, it was part of the defense of Schoonhoven. The castle was besieged in 1300 and 1304. The castle was severely damaged in the process. Around 1312, the Zevender castle was rebuilt and probably expanded by Jan van Henegouwen. Most of the castle was lost during the city fire of 1518. It was partly repaired, yet Zevender remained as a ruin. In 1533, the remains were cleared and that was completed in 1542.
