Cycling through characteristic West Frisian villages

West-Friesland is a unique piece of the Netherlands within the Frisian Omringdijk: the only monumental dike in the world. Get on your bike and discover this cycling gem with its rich cultural history yourself.

Spanbroek
Further on in Hoogwoud you will see the town hall from 1743, and you will also pass the Lastdrager: a polder mill from 1650. In Spanbroek you will cycle past the sixteenth-century village church, and further on you will see the magnificent town hall from 1598. The Westerveer is a polder mill from 1873. In the wide polders it is wonderfully quiet to cycle on car-free roads.

West Forest
Just above Hoorn you cycle through the village of Zwaag. Here you can take a look at the charming neo-Gothic Lourdes Chapel from 1882. Further on you pass the Windmill Krijgsman: its two predecessors were destroyed by wind and lightning. In Westwoud you see some characteristic monumental farmhouses, in Hauwert you pass the beautiful fifteenth-century Nicolaas Church. You pass through Benningbroek and Sijbekarspel, two picturesque ribbon villages. What a beautiful region West Friesland is!
