On the Lek you pass through two towns with a rich history: Culemborg and Wijk bij Duurstede. There is another historical gem in the Betuwe: Buren. At 't VeerHuys you can enjoy a delicious meal, so that you can get on the ferry and then on your bike with a well-filled stomach. First you drive along the Lek to Culemborg. In the old city center you can still experience the atmosphere of a bygone era. Further on you pass the Johanna, a flour mill from 1888. In the polders it is wonderful to cycle on roads where there are few cars. You look out over meadows and orchards. However small Buren is, the former fortified town is dotted with monumental buildings, such as the fifteenth-century St. Lambertus Church. The fortifications are still largely intact, so you can soak up some history here.

The most famous windmill type in the Netherlands. Windmills were not only used to produce flour from cereals, but also for draining polder areas. Natural energy. The most famous windmills can be found in Kinderdijk, which have truly been set up as a polder model. A must see!
