Your route starts at Hotel Restaurant De Vossenberg. Vierhouten is surrounded by four wooden, or forests. This unique location would explain the name of the village. In any case, it is an ideal starting point for a walking route. Not long after your departure you will pass Easter Hill: the former camping site of the Arbeiders Jeugd Centrale (the youth department of the predecessor of the PvdA). The old camp house from 1928 and guest house from 1938 are national monuments. It is wonderful to walk on the Elspeetse Heide. In this gently sloping area you hardly see any grass, so you can enjoy the heath to the fullest. Especially when this plant blooms in August and turns the landscape into a purple sea. It is wonderfully quiet here, especially on weekdays.
