Walking through the Weelen and the Streekbos

This route takes you through two adjacent nature reserves in the outskirts of Enkhuizen. You walk through the Weelen and the Streekbos. Make sure you have waterproof shoes!

The Weelen
At Fruitkwekerij't Keetje you can stock up on supplies for a nice picnic on the way. On a quiet road you walk into the wide polders. Get a breath of fresh air while enjoying the silence. On the horizon you can see some church towers of nearby villages. A little later you enter the Weelen. In this water-rich nature reserve you can still see what West Friesland looked like before the land consolidation. You can spot many birds.

The Regional Forest
From the Weelen you walk into the adjacent Streekbos. This nature reserve was only created in 1978. Previously, the land was part of the large sailing polder. There is still a sailing connection to Enkhuizen from the forest! In the forest there is a unique observatory with an observatory, exhibition space and planetarium: Public Observatory Orion. You walk back to't Keetje over a leafy path. Time for a terrace!
