The recreational lake near the Zwarte Dennen, in the Staphorst forestry, has traditionally been a location where generations, young and old, can enjoy recreation and swimming. A popular place for many residents of Staphorst and the surrounding area.
Nationaal Monument voor Geweldslachtoffers
The monument is first and foremost a place to remember people who died as a result of violence. Next of kin have the option of doing this by affixing the name of their loved one in the form of a picture on the wall. The monument also wants to be a cry for help, addressed to society, to put a stop to violence.

Bird protection in the Netherlands set up a project in the late 1960s to reintroduce the stork. Since 1979, 12 outstations have been established in areas suitable for storks. De Lokkerij started in 1981 and the animals were given the opportunity to get used to a natural environment under supervision, so that they could show their natural behavior again. From the nineties of the last century, the number of breeding pairs in the Netherlands increased sharply.
