Description
You can take lovely walks around the former sea arm Haringvliet. Along the way you look out over the water and over the impressive Haringvliet locks that can be seen from far and wide. At the beginning of the route you walk over these locks via a road.
Along the Haringvliet to Hellevoetsluis
You start this tour at the water's edge at the Haringvliet locks. A little further on you can take a look at A-Seal, a shelter for seal pups. Then walk from Goeree-Overflakkee to Voorne-Putten over the Haringvliet locks and further to Hellevoetsluis. You will walk along the edge of the Haringvliet all the time. Admire the Hellevoetsluis lighthouse and then take the ferry to Middelharnis. You will sail right past the special island of Tiengemeten, in the middle of the Haringvliet.
Bird watching
Then you walk further through the nature reserves on the edge of the Haringvliet to Stellendam. These wet banks are loved by geese and all kinds of meadow birds. If you like birds, you can feast your eyes here. Eventually you end up back at the point where you started your walk.
Nature island Tiengemeten
The nature island Tiengemeten is definitely worth it. Make a stop here on the way from Hellevoetsluis to Middelharnis and enjoy the peace and space that can be found here. Among other things, cattle graze here and there are also beavers to be found. You will also find all kinds of bird species here.
Please note: ferries sail at different times throughout the seasons. Check online in advance whether the ferry on this route is in service.
