Description
You can enjoy a lovely walk around the former estuary, the Haringvliet. Along the way you look out over the water and the impressive Haringvliet locks that can be seen from far and wide. At the beginning of the route you walk over these locks via a road.
Along the Haringvliet to Hellevoetsluis
You start this tour at the edge of the water at the Haringvliet locks. A little further on you can take a look at A-Seal, a sanctuary for seal pups. Then walk from Goeree-Overflakkee to Voorne-Putten over the Haringvliet locks and on to Hellevoetsluis. You continuously walk along the edge of the Haringvliet. Admire the Hellevoetsluis lighthouse and then take the ferry to Middelharnis. You sail close to the special island of Tiengemeten, in the middle of the Haringvliet.
Bird watching
Then you continue walking through the nature reserves on the edge of the Haringvliet to Stellendam. These wet banks are popular with geese and all kinds of meadow birds. If you like birds, you can be amazed here. Eventually you will arrive back at the point where you started your journey.
Tiengemeten nature island
The nature island of Tiengemeten is absolutely worth it. Make a stop here on the way from Hellevoetsluis to Middelharnis and enjoy the peace and space that can be found here. Cattle graze there and beavers can also be found. You will also find all kinds of bird species here.
